Regulations
Oxus is regulated by several agencies depending on the tasks we are performing.
Medical Waste Transport, Treatment and Disposal is regulated by Maine DEP, U.S. EPA, OSHA and U.S.DOT Hazardous and Bio-Hazardous Waste Guidelines as well as local Department of Health regulations.
Sharps Containers are regulated by FDA regarding the design and manufacturing of the container; Maine DEP and DOT regarding transport; OSHA regarding opening and emptying the container; and DOH regarding the disinfecting of the container.
For each of these agencies, in combination with the efforts of our team members, protecting human health and the environment is the singular goal.
Licenses, Permits and Insurance
The Associated Health Resources Biomedical Waste Plant is permitted through the Maine DEP and Oxus is the designated operator of the plant.
Oxus maintains licensing and permits as required by the Maine DEP (and New York DEC) and we are EPA and US DOT registered.
Oxus maintains general liability, vehicle liability, pollution/environmental liability and workers compensation insurance.
The entire staff receives regular training as mandated by OSHA and the Maine DEP, as well as through MEMIC (workers comp carrier)
